The post-op nursing team at Sapphire Park Medical were top notch! I researched my type of surgery in depth (jaw surgery) and knew this would be the most intense recovery out of all that I’ve had in the past. I was specifically looking for someone who knew how to recover THIS specific surgery and they had advanced knowledge of how to do so. I knew they were the right fit.

The coordinating nurse listened to my concerns and needs prior to surgery and were able to address them. They had a pre-op plan, including transport, list of items needed for recovery, and post-op plan. They had a direct line to my doctor, if needed (but they didn’t because they just knew what to do). They pep talked me and made sure I felt ready.

The nurses knew the benchmarks of my healing process each day and were prepared to adjust their protocol accordingly as needed. They charted my meds/icing/food/proteins diligently and were always on top of my pain management. If they noticed I needed something additionally to improve my healing (food, medicine, supplies, etc.), they swiftly got it so I could remain comfortable. They cooked delicious, post-op friendly meals and included supplements in the food so they didn’t have to administer one more thing for me. They also got my favorite ice cream blended by my local ice cream shop on our last day together (knowing I wouldn’t be able to drive to get it myself for quite some time). A nice touch!

Their team was kind, knowledgeable, skilled, intuitive, flexible, proactive and prompt with treatment. I really enjoyed having them recover me in my home. This was such a good investment in my recovery, healing, safety and health after surgery.

If you’re having major surgery and can in any way make this work financially, I say do it. I had major jaw surgery and had 24-hour care from Cristina and her colleague for the first few days (then daytime for the rest of the week). Partners and parents and so forth may think they are going to be okay with waking up every 2 hours to check on you, but in the end they are probably not.

The best part is Cristina’s base of experience— for jaw surgery, she’s especially experienced. Also, I’m pretty “type A,” and it was a huge relief to have someone come in and be as organized about pills and record-keeping as I would be if I were feeling well. It’s hard to quantify the relief of turning that over to someone else and being able to just rest and recover.

Cristina was also able, with her experience, to fill in the gaps in the extensive, but in the end not extensive enough, information the (otherwise wonderful) surgeon had given about what to expect. Cristina’s night-relief colleague is really sweet, too, and is a nice balance of being gentle but also being clear about what she would recommend. They were both super-sweet with me through a hard time in my life. And they are both pleasant and easy to have around, which is important when you are feeling awful.

If you’re having surgery (ESPECIALLY jaw surgery or anything equally intense) and can get this care, I say, do it.

This team went the extra mile and literally saved my life. They saw something wrong in my labs, called me at 9pm and insisted on coming out to re-test. While En route, Christina stayed on the phone with me and ultimately called an ambulance. If she had not done everything she did, I would have needed another miracle to still be here.
